Application of Oxygen Lances and Tips in Steelmaking:
Oxygen lances are critical tools in basic oxygen furnaces (BOF) and electric arc furnaces (EAF). They inject high-purity oxygen at supersonic speeds into the molten bath, promoting decarburization, oxidation of impurities (silicon, manganese, phosphorus), and generating exothermic heat to maintain temperature. The lance tip—often copper with multiple nozzles—controls jet shape, penetration depth, and splash patterns, optimizing reaction kinetics and refractory life. Advanced tip designs (e.g., Laval nozzles, multi-hole configurations) enhance oxygen efficiency, reduce splashing, and extend lance service life, directly impacting tap-to-tap time and steel quality
